So what does a Transportation Engineer at Michael Baker International do?
•Under limited supervision, plans, designs, and analyzes data on roadway/transportation engineering projects
•Prepares moderately complex studies with associated drawings, maps, reports, and supporting documentation
•Prepares quantities and construction cost estimates
•Prepares construction drawings
•Attend site visits, reporting findings to more experienced engineers and/or project managers
•Assists project manager in communication with clients regarding project issues and attends meetings
•Assists project managers with defining scope of work and man-hour requirements
•Assists project managers and more experienced engineers in ensuring that project/task schedules and budgets are met
•Coordinates with technicians to ensure timely and accurate document or drawing preparation
•Responsible for maintaining knowledge through completion of various training initiatives: attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, attending in-house systems/management training
•Occasional to moderate travel may be required
•Other duties as assigned
Can you walk me through a typical day of a Transportation Engineer?
•Responsibilities will include working on a team of engineers and production staff with design and production of roadway horizontal and vertical alignments, intersection layout, corridor modeling, quantity/cost estimating and post design services.
•Additional roles for candidate include assisting the design team with the preparation of project bid documents, including plans, estimates, and specifications.
•Daily communication with the Project and Task Managers on key issues and project progress.

Could you be the Transportation Engineer we are looking for? You’ll have the following:
•Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with coursework relevant to working in the transportation engineering field
•6 – 8 years of relevant work experience and a California P.E. license
•An eagerness to learn and apply your engineering skills to develop creative problem-solving designs
•The ability to communicate and effectively participate as part of an engineering team
•The ability to direct designers/CAD Technicians in the completion of redlines
•Computer knowledge/experience with Microstation/InRoads and Microsoft Office (Word/Excel)
•AutoCAD/Civil3D experience is a plus
•Experience with local Caltrans standards is a plus
