A project manager oversees the planning and design of infrastructure projects, supervises preparation of the construction plans, cost estimates, specifications and permits and completes the required coordination with utility companies, property owners, agencies and clients to construct these projects. Project managers have an active role coordinating with contractors, inspectors, construction managers, and municipal public works staff during construction of the projects we design.
This project manager’s typical day will have a wide variety of activities ranging from leading meetings with in house and subconsultant design teams to plan out and engineer transportation projects and develop milestone schedules to complete construction plans and bid packages, to field meetings with property owners affected by future projects, to review meetings with PennDOT, DEP, SEPTA, railroads and other agencies to acquire approvals and permits for the projects you will lead, to making presentations at public meetings to explain our engineering plans, to working with contractors to answers questions that arise during construction and many other potential activities. This project manager could assist with marketing efforts, proposal writing and business development as well.
- 7-10 years’ experience in transportation engineering design and/or project management experience
- Experience supervising 2-4 staff engineers
- Experience with bicycle/pedestrian/trail design projects as well as small to mid-size highway and bridge projects preferred
- Experience with design, bidding and construction of PennDOT, DCNR, DCED and municipal projects
- Microstation CADD and Inroads software expertise preferred
